Minimally invasive thyroid surgery

In the past, thyroid surgery took three to four hours and required an overnight stay in the hospital. It resulted in a large scar across the throat that is often visible in the mirror and others.

Individual approach to each patient

Both endoscopic cameras and ultrasound are used to identify the abnormal gland and remove it during the procedure. Most patients wake up from the procedure with little to no pain and are discharged to go home after a short observation period.

We excel in excellent outcomes, safety, efficiency, and cost consciousness

Dr. Parikh’s surgical techniques for thyroid disease make traditional thyroid surgery obsolete. In the past, thyroid surgery took three to four hours and required an overnight stay in the hospital. It resulted in a large scar across the throat that is often visible in the mirror and others.

We Have The Experience and Treatment Options to help

Depending on the diagnosis, you may need to have surgery on your thyroid. There are four reasons to have thyroid surgery, even if you’re in the early stages of thyroid disease.

Signs of of hyperthyroidism:

Hyperthyroidism often causes you to lose significant weight, increased appetite, increased heart rate, and possible irregular heartbeat. This indicates that your thyroid may be working too hard and is releasing too much of a specific hormone.

Additional symptoms of hyperthyroidism are:

  • Increased sweating
  • Anxiety or irritability
  • Hand tremors
  • Heat intolerance
  • Fatigue
  • Occasional muscle weakness
  • Insomnia

Treatment

While these are symptoms of a thyroid problem, they may also indicate another medical issue. That’s why you need to contact a physician to determine if you are experiencing hyperthyroidism. If you’re diagnosed with hyperthyroidism, our doctors can assist with treatment, including minimally invasive surgery to help get you back to normal.

Signs of of hypothyroidism:

The opposite of hyperthyroidism, hypothyroidism is caused by your thyroid not producing enough hormone.

The symptoms of hypothyroidism are:

  • Depression
  • Amnesia
  • Avoiding Activity
  • Fatigue
  • Brittle hair and nails
  • Constipation
  • Pale Skin
  • Swelling in the face
  • Significant weight gain
  • Swollen joints
  • High cholesterol

Treatment

Most patients do not have all of these symptoms at once, making hypothyroidism more difficult to diagnose. An ENT who specializes in thyroid issues can help determine if you have hypothyroidism and provide you with treatment options to get you feeling better.

Signs of of Thyroid Nodules:

Thyroid nodules are abnormal growths within the thyroid gland. Typically seen in ultrasound or CT scans, these are lumps in the thyroid gland. Some patients may notice a lump when looking in the mirror, putting on a collared shirt, or a necklace. However, most thyroid nodules are not noticeable with the blind eye. Sometimes, a nodule can be large enough to feel in the throat and, in very rare cases, may cause difficulty swallowing.

Treatment

If you think you may have thyroid nodules, it’s important to contact Northwest ENT for an appointment to diagnose and discuss treatment options.

Signs of of Goiter:

A goiter is an abnormal enlargement of the thyroid gland. If you have a goiter, your thyroid gland may be producing too many or too little thyroid hormone. Sometimes, there is no change in the hormone. Most often, goiters are common and don’t usually cause an issue.

The symptoms of Goiter are:

  • Swollen neck below the Adam’s apple
  • Tightness in the throat area
  • Hoarseness or scratchy voice
  • Neck vein swelling
  • Dizziness when arms are raised overhead

Treatment

If you notice a goiter or think you may have one, contact Northwest ENT for an appointment, and our staff will provide you the care you need.
